A quick post on the rise of the “nones,” a term made popular recently primarily by Pew Research and NPR.  The links I’ve put here provide some qualifying thoughts to the trend of the rising “nones.”

These articles remind me that life is always messier and harder to pin down than our generalizations.  I especially like the second link, which criticizes the lumping together of a number of different kinds of perspectives within the category “none.”  The author, Sean McCloud, wonders whether it’s fair even to use one term to gather such diverse postures.

The moral of the story?  Beware the tendency of bandwagon reactions.  I’ll do my best to take my own advice.
